![]() I think the dungeons have potential as well for future entries, I just don't think they were implemented terribly well.Īlongside Awakening and A Link Between Worlds, I think Echoes might be one of my favourite games on 3DS. It felt like an RPG in a way Fire Emblem never has. The ability to visit towns, examine locations Professor Layton/Phoenix Wright-style, take on side quests, etc really made me feel like I was exploring a world. I'm not sure if I'd call the combat a refined version of Fates (as much as I disliked Fates, I think the combat was actually the best it's been in the series), but it was certainly a refreshing change.įinally, I think a big aspect that really made me enjoy the game was the world. I also thought the story was nice, simple, and cohesive, something Fire Emblem Fates could have learned from. I really liked pretty much all the characters the fact that you play with all of the characters throughout the vast majority of the game certainly helps. The voice acting is great for a Japanese game, which surprised me given how lackluster the dub was in Awakening and Fates (which didn't even have much dialogue to begin with!). Although I really liked the art style in Awakening, the art style in Echoes is lush and gorgeous. Turns out I wasn't burned out on Fire Emblem, just burned out on Fire Emblem Fates, because holy moley I loved Echoes. I thought I was still burned out from Fire Emblem, but I gave it a shot. This summer Echoes went on sale so I picked it up. He created a plan for Alm to rise up and defeat Duma so that Valentia would be free from the influence of the mentally deteriorating gods. I love the Fire Emblem series, but was burned out after Fates: Birthright and Conquest (I haven't even started Revelation yet). Rudolf is the fourth Emperor of Rigel and an antagonist in Fire Emblem: Gaiden and Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, he is the father of Albein Alm Rudolf and is Berkut's Uncle. I really hope the remakes train continues! I don't think I will replay it, but the 30 or so hours I spent with it was enriching and worthy of playing. I also thought Alm and Celica were annoying as balls, but my love for the rest of the Echoes cast helps me ignore them lol.Įchoes is a decent game though. Every other map felt like grindy, spammy torture. The only map I really felt myself diving into was the one with Rudolf, and that was for story reasons not for map design reasons. I loved the concept of the story, although admittedly the execution was meh for me. I think the dungeon exploration was a bit bare boned, but it's a promising feature if future FE games want to develop on it. I spent way too much time feeding the characters shit like flour just to listen to their reactions. Gorgeous presentation, charming cast of characters, voice acting that elevates the experience to the next level. I'm not crazy about Echoes, but it did a lot of things right.
